Connecticut’s Yale University has hosted a conference for 18 university scholars who are studying pop star Michael Jackson. Panel discussions covered Jackson’s plastic surgeries, media coverage, and the fight against charges he is gay despite his two marriages. Jackson is “a self-created piece of art,” opined one attendee. Yale’s Seth Clark Silberman, who is writing a book on the singer, says his popularity is due to the fact that Jackson “has grown up in front of us, so we have a great investment in him, even though some people today may find his image disturbing.” (AP) ...More likely, we just watch him for the same reason we slow down to check out gory accident scenes.
